Welcome to your first virtual class also called e-Class for Computer Applications.
I am your teacher, Mrs Geeta Sehgal. Together we will Learn and Grow.
By the end of this session you will be able to
- Explain the common terms related to computing.
- Contrast between hardware and software
- contrast between data, instruction and information
- Please note that ,the practical class will be held on day 4, when you have a double period with me.
- Till the school reopens, during that time, we will connect with zoom application.
- All of you are requested to download zoom on your computer/phone and get familiar with its use. I will be sending you the zoom invite for that class on the whatsapp group of our class.
- At the end of period 1, please mention in the comment box whether you have completed or not,If not, we will continue the topic in the 7th priod today (Don't forget to click on PUBLISH)
- We meet again in the 7th period today.

Study the above diagram and identify the various components that have been labelled.

We will look at a few important definitions today:
Please make an effort to understand and then write the following notes in your notebooks.
Draw a well labelled diagram of a computer also
COMPUTER:-
- is an electronic device which is used to perform a variety of operations on the basis of a set of instructions called program.
- takes input from the user in the form of DATA and INSTRUCTIONS.
- processes the DATA according to the given INSTRUCTIONS.
- produces INFORMATION as desired by the user.
- denotes UNPROCESSED RAW FACTS and FIGURES.
- can accept data in the form of text, numbers, audio, video and images
- is collected and stored for future use.
- eg. a name (Raj) or a number(2479)
INFORMATION:-
- is DATA processed according to given INSTRUCTIONS
- is useful and meaningful to the user
- eg Derrick is the name of a class IX student whose age is 15.
HARDWARE:-
- physical parts of the computer that we can touch and feel
- two type
- input devices- allows us to enter data and instructions eg. keyboard, mouse
- output devices- allows us to view the result eg. monitor, printer
- set of programs necessary to carry out operations for a specified job.
- set of instructions which guide the computer to perform a given task.
- eg.Windows 10, MS Word.
Following is the Home work to be done by all in the notebook/ on the computer.
Keep saving your work carefully.
I shall take the work as the school reopens.
